Aberdeen, MD (August 12, 2015) – The Susquehanna Workforce Network (SWN) and University Center (UC), formerly known as the HEAT Center, announces the opening of the Susquehanna Workforce Center – University Center (SWC-UC). The center will provide a central location within Harford County for businesses and job seekers to access workforce development and training services at the UC’s complex.

The doors of the SWC-UC had its soft opening on July 20, 2015 and is located at University Center, 1201 Technology Drive, Aberdeen, Md. This location is prime, as it is conveniently located in the heart of the I-95/Rte. 40 growth corridor. The core capabilities of the new SWC-UC will include workforce attraction and customized recruitment services to area businesses, as well as providing assistance to area residents in finding employment and career opportunities.

“Since UC is already becoming known for its influence in drawing leading education institutions to the region, this partnership is an obvious and natural fit—providing innovation and the workforce to ensure the future of our local economy,” says Bruce England, executive director of SWN. “Having worked with Nancy (Spence) and UC on other collaborations has shown that our businesses and opportunities need to be focused around innovation and technology. Making UC our new home only makes sense.”

The Center staff will include Employment Specialists certified in resume writing, job search assistance, career advisement, labor market information and human resources. Residents seeking employment opportunities will have access to a variety of employment services, many at no cost to them, which include job searches, interviews and assessment tests. Those that go through the Center’s resources will also have access to all the higher education offerings, including occupational certifications offered by the University Center.

“When it comes to knowing local businesses, industry and personnel, no one knows Harford and Cecil Counties as well as Susquehanna Workforce,” said Nancy Spence, executive director at University Center. “The new Workforce Center at University Center will allow us to serve the region in many new capacities.”

SWC-UC’s hours of operation will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

A formal grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting of the new SWC-UC will be held in September. More information to come on the exact date and time of the ribbon cutting.

Staff at the Center will be able to be reached at 410.272.5400.
